Christmas atmosphere and conviviality in Winterberg In any case, it is very nice to celebrate Christmas (and New Year's Eve) in Winterberg. Everything is beautifully lit and brought into the Christmas spirit and actually this has been since the end of November. They don't know Sinterklaas and that is why they immediately start preparing everything for Christmas. Christmas is very important to the Germans and that is why a lot of time is spent on it .
Opening winter sports season in Winterberg As far as winter sports are concerned, Skiliftkarussell Winterberg aims to open every year at the beginning of December. Every effort will then be made to have as many slopes ready as possible. We don't just depend on natural snow. There are around 500 snow cannons throughout the ski area and they come on as soon as it drops a few degrees below zero. In addition, 'snow factories' have been installed. The advantage of this is that these machines can make snow at temperatures above zero.
The number of ski lifts and slopes that are open at Christmas differs per year and is of course very dependent on the weather. Read below the conditions per year. Huge investments have been made in Winterberg and the surrounding area to prepare the ski area as optimally as possible and to guarantee sufficient snow security from mid-December to the end of March.
Christmas market Winterberg Every year there is also a cozy Christmas market in Winterberg. The dates vary slightly from year to year. But you can assume that the Christmas market is open from mid-December to early January. There are all cozy wooden huts with food and drinks, Christmas decorations, a huge Christmas tree and Christmas and live music.
Skiing at Christmas in Winterberg? Can you ski in Winterberg during the Christmas holidays. This is of course THE QUESTION every year What could be better than a white Christmas and then skiing! We always hope for a layer of natural snow after which the snow cannons can replenish it. Whether this is possible really varies from year to year. If it is a year less with the snow and skiing opportunities at Christmas, it is still super cozy in Winterberg.

Christmas in Winterberg 2021 From November 2021, snow will already be made with the snowfactories. The first 2 slopes and lifts opened on November 27. These are the Poppenberg nr 5 and the Rauher Busch nr 12.
Christmas in Winterberg 2020
Unfortunately everything is closed due to the Corona measures. That is a pity because the snow and slope quality is fantastic. It snows almost continuously from the beginning of November. At the end of December there was already 65 cm of natural snow. This weather has continued until the end of January 2021.
Christmas in Winterberg 2019 Update 09-12-2019 People are already working hard on the slopes to make snow and nature also lends a helping hand. On December 9, it snowed heavily in the evening. But we still have a few weeks to go so it remains a bit exciting. i
Christmas in Winterberg 2018 Update 12/27/201 The snow cannons have been on for another night just after Christmas. Unfortunately, the temperatures are also just above zero. This does not affect the snow depth on the slopes, but unfortunately it does affect the snow in the town and next to the slopes. The slopes and snow conditions are still good and the 15 lifts are still running. Of the slopes, 25 km of the 27.5 km are open. The snow depth is 30 cm.
Update 12-24-2018
The snow cannons have been on again since about 5 pm. There are now 15 lifts running and there is about 30-35 cm of snow. The past few days it has been well above 0 and it has also rained a lot. Fortunately, the snow has held up well on the slopes.
Update 12-18-2018
This year it is not quite clear yet. In the weeks before Christmas (10 to 16 December) it has been very cold and it has snowed quite a bit. 5 elevators opened on December 15 and until December 16 the guns were on day and night. On December 17, there was an average of 40 cm on the slopes. All this to have as many prepared slopes open as possible during the Christmas holidays.
Christmas in Winterberg 2017 This was a top year in terms of winter sports conditions at Christmas and New Year's Eve. 25 of the 26 lifts are running and all slopes are open. It had already snowed quite a bit in the month before Christmas and the snow cannons had also been turned on.
Christmas in Winterberg 2016 In 2016 it was not so great during the Christmas holidays. It was possible to ski, but not many lifts were open, so it was also very busy on the slopes that were open.
